Every year, countless businesses are formed and launch their products/services. As a result, many of these go out of business pretty soon. But how, exactly, do you stand out from the crowd? In short, self promotion. Think of a big business; Apple, Microsoft, Coca-Cola. They’ve all got products that are pretty similar to their competitors. But, they’ve promoted themselves to the point where their brand in instantly recognisable.
When we mention the likes of Coca-Cola, we instantly think of their logo; Coca-Cola written in a black, curly font against a red background. The same principal applies to Apple and a host of other companies. Because of this brand awareness – and the self promotion behind it – each have become incredibly successful in their fields. And that’s where their success comes from; they promoted themselves to the point where they’re names are well known to everybody.
But what they did takes work, time, and a lot of brainstorming. But where to start with self promotion?
Logos: The First Step In Self Promotion

Unfortunately, not many businesses get to make it as massive as the likes of Apple or Coca-Cola. As a result, very few of us will have our logos are recognised as either of them.
But that doesn’t detract from the importance of a good logo; you still want it to be recognisable to as many people as possible, and it needs to speak for your brand.
Coca-Cola’s logo works for them in a number of ways, mainly being in how well it represents the brand.
The company has always cultivated a feeling of the company being slightly playful, and the logo gets that across perfectly.
Apple is the same; the computers they create are known for their sleek, professional designs and features. Their sleek, professional looking logo represents that.
Your logo needs to represent your overall brand, not just your products. Go with what feels natural for your business, and how you’d want your business to be seen. After all, your brand is your identity.
Marketing Is Another Word For Self Promotion

What is marketing if not self promotion? The only way for your business to be heard is to be vocal. And who better to market your business than you? This is where your self promotion comes in.
Your brand needs a face as much as it needs a logo. Apple had Steve Jobs. Facebook has Mark Zuckerberg. Your business has you. And you need to be just as visible as they were/are for their businesses.
When we can put a face to a business, we’re more likely to pay attention. We’re more likely to notice the brand and actively engage with it.
Putting a face on your business has been shown to increase engagements; even with flyers, having your face used the right way can increase engagement with your brand immeasurably.
This is because people like to feel like they know who they’re doing business with.
This doesn’t just affect flyers; brochures, emails, newsletters, even social media all benefit from being able to put a face to the name.
People are creatures of comfort, and we’re all more comfortable knowing exactly who we’re doing business with. Even networking can prove to be a massive bonus for your business, especially if you’re doing it right.
